Available Scholarships
Applicants must request that official transcripts (high school and college as applicable) be sent directly from the school(s) to Amy Hoover, Secretary, MCTOA, 5920 N. Jefferson Rd., Midland, MI 48642, and must be received no later than 5:00 PM on Wednesday, July 10th, 2024
In order to be considered for the Walter J. Witte Governmental Service Scholarship, you must be a resident of one of the Midland County Township Officials' Association's 16 participating Townships*. By definition you are considered a resident if the following conditions apply: (a) applicant has been a legal resident of one of the 16 participating Townships for at least a year, (b) if applicant is a current high school senior graduating from a Midland County high school, or ( c) if applicant is a college student who is a legal resident of one of the 16 participating Townships and moved out of the county for the specific purpose of going away to college. You are ineligible if you are (a) an individual who moved to one of the 16 participating Townships for the specific purpose of attending college here, (b) an individual who moved away from one of the 16 participating Townships for a purpose other than going away to college, or (c) an individual who has never lived in one of the 16 participating Townships.
Charles S. Trzcinski was an outstanding Physics teacher and coach at Midland High School from 1972 - 1997. During Mr. Trzcinski's career at Midland High School, he was an inspirational teacher, coach, and leader. "Trz" promoted the "Chemic Pride" motto and designed the atomic Chemic logo. In May of 1997, Mr. Trzcinski was diagnosed with cancer and died in November of that same year at the age of 48. During his 25 years at Midland High School, Trz emphasized to his students and athletes the importance of participation, teamwork, hard work, respect for others and the challenging of one's self.
Criteria for Selection:
- Any adult in the community can nominate a Midland High School graduating senior who exemplifies the attitude and work ethic emphasized by Mr. Trzcinski.
- The recipient will be selected from nominations by the Midland High School staff and the scholarship committee.
- Financial need is not a consideration.
- Preference may be given to a student who meets all criteria and has lost a parent.
Award:
- $1,000 scholarship (awarded at the spring award ceremony in May)
- Recipient’s name engraved on a plaque retained at Midland High School

The Anita Giampalmi Memorial Scholarship commemorates the courage, spirit, tenacity and most especially the warmth and sense of humor of Anita who graduated from Midland High School in 1989.
Requirements
- Planning to attend Michigan State University in fall of 2024
- Committee will have special interest in candidates who plan a career in a “helping” profession
- Submission of a completed application and one letter of recommendation
- Consideration of those applicants who have been a past member of Cheer or Pom(NOT required) at Midland High School and/or have been an active member of the Chemic community
* Please return the completed application (by email) along with your letter of recommendation to Ms. Stearns by Wednesday April 30, 2024: (stearnskm@midlandps.org)
This scholarship is for students who live in Beaver Township. The application and a short essay are required.
Deadline is received May 1.
Multiple scholarships are open to dependents of active duty, reserve/guard, deceased or retired from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard or Space Force.
Five hundred $2,000 scholarships will be awarded this year.
